As a standard, your Releva subscription comes pre-loaded with default Product Blocks on the major pages on your website (Home page, Category page, Product page and Cart / Checkout etc).
In case the default ones are not enough and you need more, you are more than welcome to create as many as you wish and here we will cover this easy process.
Where are the product blocks located? #
First things first, open the Releva Admin panel. On the left side, choose ‘Web Personalization’ from the main menu and then ‘Product Blocks’.
On the top of the page, you will find different tabs representing the pages on your website and the available product blocks in each:

The tabs represent the different pages on your website where you are able to create product blocks
Select a page you where you would like to create a new product block and let’s continue forward.
Create a new product block #
New product blocks can be created in two ways – creating a blank new product block, where you will need to do everything from scratch or making a copy of already existing one and simply applying the necessary changes.
We would highly recommend to simply make a copy of an existing one. That way, it would be less likely to miss some of the necessary settings for the Product block to function.
Making a copy of existing Product Block #
First, choose a page where the new Product block will be located and then open a random one there.
At the bottom right corner you will see a ‘Make a copy’ button (available for every single element on the platform). After clicking it, this will open a modal like this one:

Make sure to select the page where you would like the product block to be copied to and confirm with the button below. After this action, you’ll be redirected back to the page and all that’s left is to navigate to the page and open the copied product block (you will easily recognise it as it’ll have ‘Copy’ at the end of its name).
Once you have made the copy, locate it and click on its name to open it. Now, you can make any changes you want to it. If you are not familiar what each option on each tab does, check the description for each tab in the next section.
Make a product block from scratch #
You you feel comfortable with the platform, you can also create a product block from scratch. To do so, choose the page where the product block will be located and click on the ‘New Product Block’ button located above the existing ones:

Once clicked, let’s check each of the options separately:
Tab General #
This is where the functioning options of the product block will be set so let’s check each of them:

- Name – this is the name of the product block visible only for you in the Releva Admin panel. Name it whatever you wish as long as it will allow you to easily understand the purpose and functionality of the block with one glance.
- Title – this is the name of the product block which will be displayed on the website itself=
- Title Translations – If you have multiple locales on your website, you would be able to choose them and how the title of the product block is translated in those languages.
- Mode – here you can choose how the product blocks operates and handles the products:
- Highlight Mode – the results might contain products already on the page.
- Discover Mode – product blocks will only return products not found on the page.
- Re-Rank Mode – the results will contain only products found on the page, re-ranked according to the algorithm and filter selection.
- Product Feed – here you can choose the actual brain behind what products are visualised. If you don’t have one created, we recommend checking the article how to create your own – How to create a new Product Feed?
- Products to Show – here, you can choose how many products the algorithm returns. It can be from 0 to 50 and both ends can be moved meaning you can even choose the product block to be hidden if less than 5 products are available for example. We recommend to choose a lower number to ensure the speediness of the product block loading.
- Randomize – this option allows you to instruct the product block to randomise the showcased products on each page refresh.
Tab Audience #
This is the page where you will select which group of users you will be targeting with the product block. Let’s see its options in a bit more detail:

- Behavioral Segment – this is the segment of people that will be able to see the product block. In majority of cases, this will be set to ‘Everyone’ but you can choose another segment as well. If you don’t know how to create segments, check this article: How to create a Segment?
- Action – this option controls whether the Product Block is shown or hidden for members of the chosen segment above.
- Profile filter – this determines who will see your product block based on their current attributes. This filter applied in real-time. It is most commonly used to perform A/B tests with product blocks to determine which algorithm will work best in a given place/scenario.
Display Configuration #
This tab is all about how and where your product block will be positioned and visualised, so let’s check its settings:

- Layout – at the beginning of your integration with Releva, layouts tailored to your specific website were created so you can choose the one most fitting for the job.
- CSS Selector – here you have two options:
- Option 1 – you can enter the URL of the page where this product block will be positioned and simply click on the preview below where it should be positioned. Alternatively you can click on the purple Full screen preview button for a more comfortable positioning. Once selected, the CSS Selector will automatically populate in the field below the preview window.
- Option 2 – if you feel comfortable with the Developer menu and Inspect on your browser, you can take the CSS Selector through there and place it below the preview window.
- Insert Strategy – this setting controls where the product block is positioned relative to the element designated by the CSS selector.
- URL Filter – you may choose to include or exclude this Product Block from specific pages based on what the page URL looks like.
For example, if you wish this recommender to only appear on the page https://releva-demo.myshopify.com/categories/footwear , you should add footwear in the field URL contains. If you add footwear in field URL doesn’t contain the pageBlock will NOT appear on the page https://releva-demo.myshopify.com/categories/footwear . If values are entered into both fields, you will activate both include and exclude filters.“` typing in both fields. - Locales to Display – here you can specify multiple locales in order to restrict the product block to be visualised on them. If you leave it empty, the product block will be visualised in all languages available on the website.
Once you have filled every option in each tab, make sure to save your new Product Block.
Testing the Product Block #
Before you enable your brand new product block for your users to see and interact with, it’s recommended to test it out and make sure it’s working properly and displayed where you wanted it to be.
To do so, you can utilize our Debug mode by adding ?rlv_mode=debug at the end of the URL.
Here’s an example – https://demo.releva.ai/?rlv_mode=debug.
Once you enter Debug mode, you will see every single Releva element created, even the ones that might have expired or not turned on so there’s no need to panic – only you can see them.
Now, locate the product block you just created and see if everything is as expected. If something is not right, go back to the tab where your Releva Admin is and make the necessary changes until it looks great and meets your expectations.
Please note, the only way to exit Debug mode is to close the tabs where it was activated.
Activating the Product Block #
At the end, the only thing left is to activate your new Product block by clicking on the toggle button located on it’s right side.

Once it’s turned to green, your Product block is active and your users will be able to see and interact with it.
