How to create a new Product Feed?

3 min read

Creating a brand-new custom Product Feed can be highly beneficial especially for the times when you have something specific in mind.

The process is pretty straight forward so let’s begin!

First steps #

As anything that has to do with Releva, you need to first open the Admin panel. Once you do that, navigate and click on the ‘Data Platform’ menu located on the left side and then select ‘Product Feeds’ from the available options:

There, located at the top right corner will be a button New Product Feed – click on it:

Getting Familiar with tab ‘General’ #

One of the first things you will need to do is write a unique name for your Product Feed. That way, when the time comes for you to use it in the Product Blocks on your website or in any of the Marketing channels that support this type of functionality, you will be able to easily differentiate between the numerous Product blocks you have at your disposal.

Choosing a Scope #

Here, the only thing you need to remember is that the option Marketing channels can be used both for Marketing channels and for Web (in the Product blocks) but not vice-versa. In addition to that, when you choose Web, you would be able to use page context in the filters sections for a more personalized experience.

Tags #

You will have the option to write and choose tags for auditing purposes. The use of those though is not mandatory

Algorithm #

As you will see for yourself, we have a big array of different Algorithms to choose from for the majority of scenarios you can encounter. In addition to the default ones, we also offer Premium versions in the face of our Deep AI Algorithms available for our Enterprise clients.

Tab ‘Boosts & Filters’ #

After preparing everything in tab ‘General’ it’s time to move to its neighbour tab. This is where you would be able to fully customize the product feed so it reflects your exact sales strategy. As you are creating a brand-new feed, all of the filters you see on the page are default ones with two of them predefined – Price and Availability so we can ensure the product block only shows products that are actually available.

The rest of the filters can be tuned to your specific strategy. Each filter has five options:

  • off – this filter is switched off
  • Boost – can be used to boost the specific filter and show more products that fit the criteria, you can also adjust the weight for this component
  • Bury – shows fewer products that fit the criteria of the filter and its’ weight can also be adjusted
  • Include – shows only products from this filter component
  • Exclude – doesn’t show products from this filter

Any of the filters can be used to further modify the products returned by the recommender. You can choose to set any of them to be read from different contexts:

  • user’s favourite – the value of the filter is an aggregated value of the products that the user viewed or purchased; which means that the value for each profile will be dynamic and based on their preferences
  • manual – you can set up the static value(s) manually

Default Filters #

  • Price – use the Price filter in the recommender to filter in only products that have a particular price range. We should include and manually define the price range
  • Discount – this filter works similarly to the Price one. The only difference is that instead of the list price attribute of the product(s), this property is working with the Discount attribute
  • Exact Category – use Exact Category to filter in the recommender only products from the same category
  • Exact Category and Parent Category – use Exact Category and Parent Category to filter in the recommender only products from the same category and subcategory
  • Available Only – use this filter to show only available products
  • Locale – use this filter if you have more than one language for the title of the products
  • Currency – use this filter if you have more than one currency for the title of the products
  • Specific Product IDs – Use this filter to add custom Product IDs, which will be only shown in the recommender/marketing channels
  • Custom Rule – you can add different rule options based on the characteristics of your products, such as filter by size, colour, season, material, brand, title, tags, category, shipping, position, etc.
