How to import file containing users in Releva?

1 min read

In this document, we will quickly cover how to do import the file with your users.

In case you have just exported a list with users and what you have is the raw data, make sure to first go through the article covering how to prepare the file for import here:

With that out of the way, let’s begin!

First Steps #

First, let’s navigate to ‘Data Platform’, then select Profiles from the options and finally → click on the ‘Import Profiles’ button shown on the image below:

Available options #

Before we proceed forward, let’s quickly check and get familiar with the available options and what each of them does:

  1. File field – this of course will allow you to select the .csv file you would like to upload.
  2. Skip existing profiles – if you leave this checkmark, the rest will be grayed out as the import will skip all users with the same email and/or phone number in Releva.
  3. Overwrite – as long as the Skip checkmark is removed, if you leave this one enabled you will be able to rewrite the Registration and Subscription dates of the users which are included in the imported file. This feature is quite useful in the event you want to bulk unsubscribe a lot of users.
  4. Merge tags – if this checkmark is left, this will add the Tags from the file to any existing tags in the imported users. For example, if a user already had tag regular_order, and in the file you’re importing the same user has premium_user and order_above50, when imported, the user will have all three of the tags in their profile. If you remove the checkmark, the import will disregard the tags for existing users.

Now that you know what each of the options do, continue and select them as you see fit.

Outcome #

After selecting all of the options as per your needs and clicking the Import button, this will send a request to the backend and the file will be queued for import. There is no need to stay on that page and you can even close Releva if you have nothing else to do and continue with your tasks for the day.

Based on the size of the file, this can take from a couple of mins to quite a bit longer than that.

That being said, when the import is done, you will receive an automated email with the outcome:

In the event the import was not successful, the text of the email will contain what issues need to be fixed before you proceed and attempt to import the fixed file again.

Please note, if there was an issue and the import was not successful, you can rest assured that the data was not partially imported so you can review the issue and fix it before trying again.
