Dynamic coupon
A dynamic coupon is a discount code generated for one shopper, with its own value, products and expiry, used once. It replaces the fixed public code that leaks to coupon sites and ends up in the hands of people who would have paid full price.
What it means
A fixed code is a blanket discount: everyone who finds it gets it. A dynamic coupon is a decision: this shopper, this amount, this week. The code is created when the message is sent, tied to the profile, and dies when it is used or expires. The store can give 5% to one customer and 15% to another, or none to the one who was going to buy anyway.
Why it matters for a store
Discounts are the biggest hidden cost in retention. Giving one to every abandoner trains shoppers to abandon. Tying the coupon to the person and to the goal lets the store spend margin only where it changes the outcome. In the womenswear case on our site, the flow that earned 9.4 times the revenue of the old one did it with no added discounts.
An example
A shopper who has bought three times at full price abandons a cart. She gets a reminder with no coupon. A first-time visitor who abandoned twice gets a one-time 10% code that expires in 48 hours.
How the agent uses it
Dynamic coupons are part of retention: the agent decides who gets one, generates it per shopper and puts it in the email, push or Viber message it sends.
