Car marketplace at scale: how we counted, and how to set it up

For the engineer or analyst who wants to know what the volume figures count, where they come from, and what a marketplace sends to run one agent across three countries.

  • Every definition behind the numbers on the case study
  • The setup in the store, step by step
  • What to check in your own data

What was measured

Period and population

A used-car marketplace in Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, with a separate site for dealers: three country sites and the dealer site, all together. The months are January to September 2026, with September counted from 1 to 29. Every count was read from Releva's own event store on 29 September 2026. Test and staging sites are left out.

What counts as a result

This page shows how much the agent carries, not what it sold. The measures are events recorded, searches recorded, profiles live, journey entries, and email and push delivered. There is no revenue figure on the case study, on purpose.

How an order is credited

No order is credited here. Nothing on the case study is attributed to a channel; the figures are counts of what the marketplace sent and what the agent did with it.

Controlled or observed

Observed volumes. The one-day peak of 9 April 2026, 25.7 million events and 22.6 million journey entries, was a run on the whole base. After it, journey entries settled at 3 to 9 million a month.

What the numbers do not say

They say nothing about conversion or revenue. The searches count only from March 2026, when the marketplace started sending them. Merged and deleted profiles are not in the 22 million.

Definitions

The terms on the case study

TermHow it is defined here
EventOne recorded interaction: a page view, a search, a session, one of the marketplace's own events such as a car viewed or a loan calculator used, a journey entry, or a message sent or delivered.
Own event typeAn event the marketplace defined itself and sends to the agent. 570 different ones in August 2026.
ProfileOne live record per shopper, anonymous visitors included. 22 million on 29 September 2026; 2.9 million with an email or phone number; 1.5 million registered accounts.
Journey entryOne shopper entering one journey. 22.6 million in one day on 9 April 2026.
DeliveredAn email or push message the email or push service confirmed as delivered: 8.7 million in March 2026, 6.5 million in the first 29 days of September.
Searches recordedSearch queries the marketplace sent to the agent, from March 2026: 21.7 million in August.
The setup

What was switched on, in order

1

Every interaction sent

Page views, searches, sessions and the marketplace's own events, from a car details page viewed to a loan calculator used, in one event store.

2

One profile per shopper

Every event joins one profile, across the three country sites and the dealer site, anonymous visitors included.

3

Searches added

From March 2026 the marketplace sends its searches too: 6.2 million that month, 21.7 million in August.

4

Journeys on the whole base

Journeys run on the full profile base; the 9 April 2026 run entered 22.6 million shoppers in a day.

5

Push and email

Messages go out from the same profiles: 3.3 million delivered in January, 8.7 million in March, 6.5 million in the first 29 days of September.

To check it in your own store

Count the events your platform and app produce in a month, including your own event types, and the profiles you can tell apart, anonymous ones included. Those two numbers say what size of agent you need.

Then count the messages delivered in a month and the searches run. Volumes like these are a load test, not a result; the result comes from the holdout the agent runs once it is live.

See which of last week's visitors you missed

Thirty minutes, with your store and ad accounts open. Then 30 days free. A holdout group decides: if the agent doesn't add orders in 30 days, you don't pay.
