Identity resolution
Identity resolution is the work of recognizing that the visits, devices, emails and orders of one person belong to one person, and joining them into a single profile. Without it a store sees the same customer as three strangers.
What it means
A shopper reads an email on her phone, browses on her laptop and buys in the app. Each surface produces its own anonymous visitor. Identity resolution links them when a signal connects two of them: a login, an email click, an order with an address. The join happens within what the shopper consented to; the point is not to track her across the web, it is to stop treating one customer as several.
Why it matters for a store
Everything a store does per customer depends on this. A loyalty balance split over two profiles is wrong. A cart reminder sent to someone who already bought on another device is annoying. A lifetime value computed per device is meaningless.
An example
A customer clicks an email on her phone and later buys on her laptop without logging in. The agent links the two sessions through the click, credits the order to her profile and stops the reminder that was about to go out.
How the agent uses it
Every interaction with your brand joins one profile in Releva: the ad that brought the visitor, site and app activity, chat questions, every message, every order. Retention and the sales agent act on that one profile.
